Every movement and part we sell is a vintage item, sold for parts, repair and restoration. We do not service, time or test them beyond what is described. What we do is describe exactly what we see, using the same four terms in every title and listing, so you know what you are buying before it arrives.
The four conditions we use
Running
The movement was running when it was listed. Only a movement with “Running” in its title counts as running. It has not been serviced or regulated, so if you plan to wear it, budget for a service first. Running movements are the best starting point for a straightforward restoration.
Ticking
The balance swings freely and the movement ticks when wound, but we have not described it as running: it may stop, run poorly or need more than a clean. These are good candidates for a service, and an excellent source of a complete, matching set of parts.
Balance wheel not moving freely
The balance is obstructed, stuck or damaged, so the movement does not run. Sold for parts or repair. The rest of the movement is usually a good donor for plates, bridges, wheels, barrels and keyless work.
Incomplete
Parts are missing. Each listing is photographed so you can see exactly which components are still there. If you only need one specific part, an incomplete movement is often the most economical way to get it.
What else to look for in a listing
- Winding and setting. Where we have checked, the listing says whether the movement winds correctly and sets correctly.
- Photographs. The pictures are always of the actual item you will receive, never a stock photo. Zoom in on the dial side and the train side before you buy.
- Calibre and maker. The title gives the calibre and maker where we know them, plus the dial brand. If we cannot identify a movement we say so, and we give the diameter in millimetres so you can match it yourself.
- Jewels. We state the jewel count only when it is visible on the movement.
Returns
If a movement is not what you needed, you can return it within 30 days in the condition it was sent and we will refund you. See our returns policy for the details.
